Product Description

DESCRIPTION:

This "one-of-a-kind" display case is made from very old, salvaged oak, rescued from stairway components of an old hotel which predated the Civil War. It is chocked full of architectural allure, including remnants of original tennons (from mortise and tennon joinery), screw holes, nail holes, and a patina to die for.

While most people would have considered this wood to be junk and thrown it away, I thought is was just too neat to be chucked in the landfill ... I mean ... talking about character ?? This case has it!!! And, talking about history?? Well ... this case is rich with that, too!

Except for the application of additional coats of clear lacquer and matching stain on the cut edges, the wood is just as it was when it was removed from the old hotel, which was razed several years ago. It still retains all of its original character and patina, which makes for a very striking display case.

The acrylic panel used for the slide-out top, was salvaged from the discard pile at a local hardware store.

The rich, dark "UNION BLUE " felt was salvaged from scraps being tossed out by one of our local sewing goods retailers.

Even the plywood bottom was plucked from the scrap pile.

Thick felt pads have even been placed on the underside for table top display.

The inside measurments on this unique display case are 17 1/8 inches long by 8 inches wide by 1 7/8 inches deep.
